Cuy for lunch

Every time there’s a travel feature on Ecuador — in the papers or on TV — there’s always a piece about eating guinea pig. I’m not too cool for school, so when we spotted this stall outside Iglesia de Balbanera, I seized the opportunity and got myself a $10 lunch I could have all to myself since nobody else among my travel companions wanted to try it with me. I got it “to go” and along with the whole guinea pig — cuy — head and little paws, I got a bag of potatoes in a nice sauce.

The cuy tasted (and felt) like gamy chicken with strong hints of fish. The skin was too rubbery to eat.
